Description

Wheatley and Rick belong to Valve. Altley design mine.

I did a lot of things while I suffered with writer's block, and this was one of them. I was hoping that drawing would help get my creative juices flowing, and it worked to an extent -- I was able to pound out the new chapter.

This drawing was modeled after the first draft of chapter twelve, so some of the details aren't going to match up. Also, I'm absolute shit with perspective, and I didn't use any kind of straight ruler type device for any lines. This was also my first time drawing a personality core.

Despite this just being a quick, sloppy drawing done while under the effects of an upcoming artist's block, though, I'm rather enamored of this picture.

Ooh, almost forgot: I've decided that alt!Wheatley will heretofore be referred to as "Altley." Bit easier to get out.

Shameless self-promotion

I really, really enjoyed seeing this image.

It's one thing to be in the Wheatley POV (you'll pry this name out of my cold dead hands. He's been Wheatley for this whole emotional roller coaster, dammit) and quite another to see all of the details you put into him. Some stories strictly stick me in the third person view, watching like a silent ghost throughout the story. This one put me straight into his head, and while things were a lot more raw and vivid as a result, I didn't think much about what he would have looked like from an outside POV. Reading is somewhat like a movie in my head, and it was from his perspective. Thanks to my own dabblings in writing, I know how hard it is to pull that off. Well done.

In any case, it was refreshing to see what he looked like, and for you to put in all of those little injury details (and the wire on his glasses). And you got a background in! One that is dimensionally proportional! (If that makes sense; distance and proportions=good) It helps that everything Down There fades into fog. I like that you didn't just shrug off his injuries and weaknesses for the sake of the story progression, and instead incorporated them into how his character would react and act. That's not easy. You turned this in a full on case study of what Wheatley could be, not just a soul stripped down to few pieces. This Wheatley has depth and personality without being OOC.

Until I saw this I forgot how much different Rick's optic was to the one we all know and... know to a greater extent. I feel bad for coreWheatley, dead from low battery, but it's the first fic I've seen that addressed where his power may be coming from. I always just assumed it was a little nuclear power battery until now (given that it just keeps going for the sake of the plot), but even without his character development we see in Blue Sky I still feel bad for him. No one deserves to die alone like that. And I see where you were coming from with Rick and how the surface would be hell for him even though he wanted it so badly. It still hurt to see such a wonderful character gone.

I'm just going to mentally place this story in my head as an alternate universe to the Blue Sky universe. That way I can cherish both and accept both as canon without major continuity issues and twitching (I liked how you incorporated coreWheatley's twitch). I'm so glad I found this on the tvtropes rec page.
